Clinical training in medicine and dentistry

Commonwealth Scholarships are awarded in all academic disciplines – including medicine, dentistry, and allied sciences – primarily for formal postgraduate study in preparation for a university degree or diploma (such as MSc, PhD, DPH). In medicine and dentistry, scholarships may be awarded for six months of clinical training.

Commonwealth Academic Fellowships are primarily intended to provide an opportunity to network and update knowledge and skills related to a Fellow’s academic subject and responsibilities. In medicine and dentistry, this may include updating clinical skills relevant to the academic plans of the nominating university.

Applicants in medicine and dentistry whose programme requires them to practise clinically, or to work in a laboratory department reporting on samples from patients, can be considered only if they are eligible for registration with the General Medical Council or the General Dental Council.

Please note that the General Medical Council currently requires applicants for registration to obtain a minimum score of 7.0 in all categories of the academic IELTS test.
