Organised by Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria (COSFAN)

In 2018 and 2019, branches of COSFAN were encouraged to organise events in their regions across Commonwealth Day to provide activities in different communities in Nigeria. This year, COSFAN celebrated the day through various activities, including a road walk, panel discussion, schools’ competition, dance/play, and a documentary film show. Events and activities in 2019 took place in Abeokuta, Kwara, Enugu, Rivers, and Zaria.

In Kwara State, a panel discussion was held at the University of Ilorin, attended by alumni, secondary school students, and guest speakers and participants from the university and government. The panel discussed the topic ‘A Connected Commonwealth – Issues and implication for sustainable development’.

Guest speakers Professor O B Oloyede, Vice Chancellor, Summit University Offa, and Professor Muritala Awodun, Chairman, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, addressed the topic from an academic and business perspective. Following the panel, school children from five secondary schools in Ilorin participated in a Commonwealth quiz.
